RAW vs JPEG

Windy Sunrise by David Butali (Dylan@66)
Windy Sunrise, a photo by David Butali (Dylan@66) on Flickr.

This is one of the first images taken with the Canon extender 2X on my Canon 70-200 f4.
It was a surprise to see how it comes out.
Considering that this images is 640 ISO I must say that what can do the difference is to use RAW instead of JPEG.

RAW is able to minimize rumours and keeps quality of your images very high.
Esposizione 0,003 sec (1/350)
Aperture f/11.0
Lente 330 mm
ISO 640

Two of a kind

The image above is taken with the same lens ith the 2X on, but here the ISO value is higher, here is 1600.
The image comes out from a RAW but despite the ISO here the quality is still quite good.

Esposizione 0,008 sec (1/125)
Aperture f/8.0
Lente 400 mm
ISO 1600

The HH Lady

The HH Lady by David Butali (Dylan@66)
The HH Lady, a photo by David Butali (Dylan@66) on Flickr.

These are just an example of the funny and nice objects that you could find in this old and amazing fair i my town,Arezzo (Italia).

The fair is every saturady and sunday of every month and it takes place in the old part of the town. It involves many streets and squares and most of the shops are open during this time.

It's a great chance to visit the town at the same time and surely a nice way to do it.

How to Beat the Midday Sun!

We’ve all heard the saying, even in photography, that the only people out in the midday sun are – Mad dogs, Englishmen and Wedding photographers!
Well after years of following that train of thought I decided to play around with the idea of not being beaten, by the sun that is!
The other weekend Molly – my 3 year old daughter and I, went down to the Toronto boating club and Redhead beach (NSW Australia), between 11am and 3pm to see what we could achieve with a bare speedlight, a neutral density filter and the sun.
As the sun is a harsh light source, we decided to fight fire with fire, and use a bare speedlight, absolutely no modifier! On paper it all looked straight forward – and . . . it was easier and so much fun.
Below are the specs of our gear and a rough plan of how we achieved this.

Swedish Sunrise

this is one of a series about a short trip in one of the last wild area of Europe. Two friends of mine, living there, invited me for some days. They took me around this incredible place. In the early morning i loved to go out for short walk in the surrounding forest. The forests in this part of the world have always secrets that are waiting to be discovered especially when the day starts. In different periods it's not rare to meet bears and elks . The nature there is really wild!
